ETU members can purchase discounted tickets to the new theatre show Buried City at the Sydney Festival!
Buried City is collaboration between Urban Theatre Projects (UTP), Belvoir and Sydney Festival. The production has been created in dialogue and in partnership with a number of organizations, groups and individuals including the CFMEU and in particular their Retired Members Association, the Workplace Tragedy Support Group, Gadigal Information Service Aboriginal Corporation, African Women Australia Inc and the Les Tobler Construction Training Centre.
Set late one night in the gutted façade of a building slated for redevelopment, a group of security workers, labourers and a local teenager find themselves haunting the same territory. As the night progresses, an allegory of a city recreating itself in a post-Fordist and transnational image emerges. One by one they rule a line in the sand, and by dawn they’re set for a showdown over who builds the future and who gets to own it.
It’s a show where friends and strangers forge alliances and argue their differences. Dignity, fragility and emotions rise and fall, brutality is brought to the surface. By the end, each character must reassemble themselves on their own terms and establish what they stand for.
Discounted tickets for ETU members are available for performances on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as Saturday Matinees. Tickets for ETU members are reduced to $32 plus booking fee (full price is $65, concession is $45).
